THE WECHAT ANGEL

Cinemavixion Review

In "The WeChat Angel," director Shi Hui crafts a fantasy romance centered on Jiang He, a freshman harboring dreams of heroism. His mundane campus life takes a fantastical turn when a mysterious Warlock introduces him to a 'Super WeChat.' This extraordinary device allows him to communicate across dimensions, fulfilling the profound and often heartwarming wishes of souls, thereby accumulating 'wish power.' Jiang He embarks on this journey of self-salvation to overcome a personal crisis. While he ultimately succeeds in resolving his difficulties by harnessing enough wish power, the narrative poignanty concludes with his realization that he has lost the camaraderie of friends who stood by him. The film explores themes of ambition, unintended consequences, and the sacrifices inherent in pursuing one's goals, set against a backdrop of youthful aspiration and magical realism.
