ROGUE TRADER

Cinemavixion Review

James Dearden's "Rogue Trader" offers a gripping portrayal of ambition's perilous descent into ruin, anchored by Ewan McGregor's compelling performance as Nick Leeson. The film meticulously charts Leeson's meteoric rise from a humble broker to a pivotal figure at Barings Bank, a venerable institution whose foundations he would ultimately shake. McGregor masterfully embodies the character's escalating hubris and desperation as his illicit trading activities spiral out of control. The narrative, set against the backdrop of Singapore's financial markets, effectively captures the seductive allure of high-stakes finance and the devastating consequences of unchecked greed. While the film received a mixed critical reception, its exploration of the human cost behind financial scandals remains a potent and cautionary tale, enhanced by the solid supporting performances from Anna Friel and Cristian Solimeno.
