GOLDSTONE

Cinemavixion Review

Ivan Sen's 'Goldstone' is a compelling neo-Western that delves into the complexities of modern Australia. Aaron Pedersen reprises his role as Indigenous detective Jay Swan, this time navigating the dusty, deceptive frontier town of Goldstone. The narrative skillfully unravels a conspiracy that implicates the town's authority, forcing Swan into an uneasy alliance with a local officer, portrayed with grit by Alex Russell. Jacki Weaver adds a layer of chilling menace as the town's powerful mayor. The film masterfully blends a tense crime procedural with sharp social commentary, exploring themes of corruption, Indigenous rights, and the lingering impact of colonial history. With its atmospheric cinematography and a taut script, 'Goldstone' stands as a significant entry in Australian cinema, offering a gripping mystery that resonates long after the credits roll.
