LARRY SEMON: SCHOOL DAYS

Cinemavixion Review

This entry focuses on 'School Days,' a 1925 film directed by and starring the once-prominent silent film comedian Larry Semon. While Semon's contemporary fame has waned, he holds a significant place in film history for his early collaborations with comedy legends Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy. His directorial work on 'The Wizard of Oz' (1925) is also a notable footnote, reportedly influencing the iconic 1939 MGM adaptation. This particular short, 'School Days,' offers a glimpse into Semon's comedic style and his interactions with Laurel and Hardy before their legendary partnership. It's a piece of silent film history worth exploring for its connection to major figures in comedy and its tangential link to a cinematic classic.
