HOUSE OF DEMONS

Cinemavixion Review

Patrick Meaney's "House of Demons" (2018) attempts a potent brew of psychological horror and character drama, centering on four estranged friends who gather for a night in a country house steeped in cultish history. As the spectral remnants of a Manson Family-esque cult stir, the house becomes a crucible for their buried secrets and subconscious demons. Meaney draws parallels to the unsettling atmosphere of "The Shining" while striving for the emotional depth found in ensemble pieces like "Magnolia." The film features a cast including Kaytlin Borgen, Morgan Peter Brown, and Dove Meir, with notable appearances from figures in geek culture such as Amber Benson. Despite its ambitious thematic scope, the film's reception, as indicated by its IMDb rating, suggests a challenging journey for audiences, perhaps owing to its deliberate pacing or the intensity of its confrontational narrative.
