WHY BEING A ROMAN SOLDIER WAS ACTUALLY PRETTY BORING

Cinemavixion Review

This documentary offers a compelling counter-narrative to the romanticized image of the Roman legionary. Through recent archaeological findings in England and France, the film reveals the surprisingly mundane realities of military life on the frontiers of the Empire. Far from constant battles and grand campaigns, the daily existence of these soldiers often involved routine, labor, and the quiet passage of time. The production effectively uses these discoveries to paint a picture of ordinary individuals, whose lives were shaped by duty and the mundane, rather than solely by the glory of conquest. It’s a fascinating look at the human element often overlooked in historical accounts of Roman military might.
