WHEN HE COMES BACK

Cinemavixion Review

"WHEN HE COMES BACK" offers a poignant exploration of identity and belonging through the lens of Lucy, a Chinese immigrant in Seattle. Veline Li delivers a nuanced performance as Lucy, a woman caught between the expectations of her family, the comfort of an impending engagement to Leon (Jaysen Lai), and the unexpected reappearance of an old flame, Cary (William Poole). Director Keith Qii Chen masterfully crafts a narrative that delves into the complexities of cross-cultural living and the persistent echoes of past relationships. The film sensitively portrays the internal struggles of its protagonist as she navigates the delicate balance between her heritage and her present aspirations. The tension builds towards a pivotal weekend retreat, where Lucy's past and future converge, promising a deeply resonant cinematic experience for those who appreciate character-driven dramas about love, identity, and the immigrant experience.
