BLACK RUBY

Cinemavixion Review

"BLACK RUBY" offers a compelling, if gritty, look into the intertwined lives of struggling artists and the allure of the illicit. Directed by La Raza, the film plunges into the world of jazz musicians whose dreams of stardom are tested by the arrival of Ruby, a captivating escort. The narrative expertly explores themes of ambition, friendship, and the corrupting influence of desire, anchored by strong performances, particularly from Zachary Laoutides. Shot with an iPhone 7, the film possesses an intimate, raw aesthetic that complements its subject matter. While the external data points to a wider release and critical recognition, including several awards and nominations, the core story remains consistent. This is a potent character study that delves into the darker corners of human connection and the sacrifices made in the pursuit of success.
