WATERFRONT

Cinemavixion Review

Steve Sekely's "Waterfront" offers a taut wartime thriller set against the atmospheric backdrop of San Francisco's docks. J. Carrol Naish delivers a compelling performance as an optometrist harboring a dangerous secret: he is a Nazi spy. The narrative gains momentum when his crucial code book is stolen, initiating a desperate hunt that involves John Carradine as a menacing Nazi operative. The film masterfully builds suspense as the protagonists navigate a treacherous underworld of murder and blackmail, striving to recover the stolen intelligence before it falls into the wrong hands. Despite its modest runtime, "Waterfront" effectively captures the paranoia and tension of its era, making it a noteworthy entry in the wartime espionage genre.
