THE WACKIEST WAGON TRAIN IN THE WEST

Cinemavixion Review

This cinematic compilation, "The Wackiest Wagon Train in the West," offers a nostalgic journey back to the charm of 1970s television, cleverly repurposing four episodes of the sitcom "Dusty's Trail" into a feature-length narrative. Helmed by director Jack Arnold, the film stars Bob Denver in a role reminiscent of his iconic Gilligan, this time as the bumbling Dusty, an assistant whose mishaps lead him and Wagonmaster Callahan astray from their westward journey. The parallels drawn to "Gilligan's Island" are intentional and evident, providing a familiar comedic rhythm. While perhaps not a groundbreaking piece of cinema, it delivers a lighthearted, character-driven adventure that will appeal to fans of classic TV comedy and those seeking a gentle, episodic Western romp. The ensemble cast, including Forrest Tucker and Ivor Francis, brings a genial energy to this wilderness escapade.
