THE SURPRISING HISTORY BEHIND MARY SHELLEY'S FRANKENSTEIN
Cinemavixion Review
This is not a film but a documentary-style discussion about Mary Shelley's seminal novel, 'Frankenstein'. Hosted by Anthony Delaney and Maddy Pelling, the episode delves into the fascinating genesis of this gothic masterpiece. Published in 1818, the novel emerged from a period of intellectual ferment and personal tragedy in Mary Shelley's young life. The discussion explores how societal anxieties about 'playing God' and the era's fascination with scientific advancement intertwined with Shelley's own experiences to create a timeless narrative of ambition, creation, and the profound consequences of unchecked ambition. It sheds light on the dark world where humanity and monstrosity collide, prompting reflection on the enduring power of this literary work and its exploration of primal fears.
