THE SUNSET SIX

Cinemavixion Review

Jeremy Stanford's "The Sunset Six" plunges into the often-unseen aftermath of rock stardom, where the echoes of past glory can be a deafening silence. This Australian comedy-drama, released in 2013, chronicles the poignant struggle of Riff, a former guitar hero whose life has unraveled in the absence of music. Tasked with reviving his career and his spirit, Riff forms a new band, aptly named The Sunset Six, embarking on a last-ditch effort to secure a record deal. The film masterfully captures the universal theme of second chances, set against the backdrop of a band teetering on the brink of implosion. Greg Stone, Jamie Mcdonald, and Kiki Courtidis deliver performances that navigate the delicate balance between the humor of their predicament and the underlying desperation. As the clock ticks down to a crucial gig, Riff must confront his own demons and mend the fractured relationships within the band. "The Sunset Six" is more than just a feel-good story; it's an insightful look at the challenges of reinvention and the enduring power of music to heal and unite, even when the dream seems lost.
