THE RIVER THIEF

Cinemavixion Review

N.D. Wilson's "The River Thief" presents a gritty coming-of-age narrative centered on Diz, a self-reliant teenage drifter whose life of petty crime takes a dangerous turn. Abandoned and jaded, Diz drifts into a small town, where his reckless nature leads him to fall for a strong-willed waitress and, more critically, to rob a notorious drug dealer. This act of defiance catapults him into a world of escalating peril, with dangerous criminals hot on his heels. While the film grapples with themes of guilt and self-sacrifice, its portrayal of Diz's struggle to navigate newfound wealth and imminent danger, all while trying to win over the guarded Selah, offers a compelling, albeit bleak, exploration of finding value beyond material gain. Despite a critical reception that highlighted its shortcomings, "The River Thief" remains an intriguing, character-driven drama for those interested in tales of redemption on the fringes of society.
