“A Stage of Twilight” offers a poignant exploration of love, mortality, and the difficult choices that arise in life's final act. The film centers on Cora and Barry, a couple navigating the profound emotional landscape of a terminal diagnosis. Barry's struggle with his health forces a decision that challenges the very foundation of their shared life, a conflict deeply felt and authentically portrayed. Their quiet existence is further complicated by Joey, a young neighbor who has become like a son to the childless couple, and whose own future hangs in the balance. Directed by Sarah T Schwab, the film benefits from strong performances, particularly from Karen Allen and William Sadler, who imbue their characters with a believable tenderness and resilience. While the narrative delves into somber themes, it does so with a grace that invites reflection on the enduring power of human connection even in the face of inevitable endings.
