THE PENDLE WITCH CHILD

Cinemavixion Review

Simon Armitage presents an extraordinary and disturbing account of the Pendle witch trials of 1612, focusing on the pivotal role of nine-year-old Jennet Device. As the star witness against her own family and neighbours, Jennet's chilling testimony led to their tragic executions. This historical drama, enhanced by Armitage's insightful commentary and innovative animation, vividly brings to life a courtroom saga from four centuries ago. The narrative masterfully explores enduring themes of childhood belief and the corrosive power of fear during crisis, prompting reflection on how easily societal anxieties can erode fundamental values. The film serves as a potent reminder of these complex issues, which remain remarkably relevant today.
