THE LITTLE PRINCESS

Cinemavixion Review

Darryl F. Zanuck's production of 'The Little Princess' showcases Shirley Temple at the zenith of her child stardom, delivering a performance that is both precocious and deeply affecting. Directed by Walter Lang, the film weaves a tale of resilience and hope centered on Sara Crewe, a young girl whose privileged life is shattered by the news of her father's demise in the Boer War. Temple’s portrayal of Sara is remarkable, imbuing the character with a quiet dignity and an unwavering belief in her father's survival. The narrative masterfully shifts from opulent boarding school scenes to the stark realities of London's military hospitals, a journey that culminates in a profoundly moving resolution. The film, released in 1939, garnered critical acclaim, with its heartwarming narrative and Temple's undeniable charisma making it a timeless classic that continues to resonate with audiences, promising a 'happy ending sure to make even grown-up viewers cry.'
