THE EXECUTION

Cinemavixion Review

Paul Wendkos's 1985 drama, "The Execution," offers a chilling exploration of justice and vengeance through the eyes of five women survivors of Nazi atrocities. The film compellingly portrays their struggle to reconcile their past trauma with the present reality of confronting their former tormentor, a doctor from the concentration camp, now living a seemingly ordinary life in California. Loretta Swit and Rip Torn deliver powerful performances, anchoring the narrative with emotional depth. The film's premise, where the survivors decide to exact their own form of justice, raises profound questions about morality and the lingering impact of war crimes. While nominated for a Primetime Emmy, "The Execution" remains a potent, albeit somber, cinematic examination of trauma and the enduring pursuit of closure, deserving of wider recognition for its thematic resonance and impactful storytelling.
