THE DECEMBRISTS. EPISODE 2

Cinemavixion Review

This installment, 'The Decembrists. Episode 2,' delves into the dramatic events of December 14, 1825, in St. Petersburg. Directed by Maksim Bespaliy, the episode reconstructs the ill-fated attempt by members of Russia's noble families to incite a revolution against the Tsar. The narrative highlights the contradictions within the uprising: experienced military leaders whose actions lacked clear planning, leading to spontaneous and illogical decisions, such as the unintended killing of General Miloradovich instead of Tsar Nicholas I. Through the collaboration with eminent historians and featuring a cast including Artem Efremov and Anton Bagmet, the production aims to meticulously piece together the chronological chain of events. It invites viewers to conduct their own investigation into the complex and unresolved story of the Decembrist revolt, exploring the roles of key participants and organizers. The documentary seeks to illuminate the historical impact of this failed plot, which nevertheless significantly influenced Russian social and economic life for decades, and to unravel the mysteries surrounding that fateful night in Senate Square nearly two centuries ago.
