Cinemavixion Review

This episode of "The Decembrists" plunges viewers into the tumultuous events of December 14, 1825, in St. Petersburg. The docudrama, from the creators of the acclaimed "The Romanovs," meticulously reconstructs the attempted revolution by members of Russia's noble families against the Tsar. Despite the plot's ultimate failure and the subsequent harsh punishments for its organizers, the Decembrist revolt left an indelible mark on Russian society for decades. The narrative highlights the perplexing contradictions within the conspirators' actions – a group of experienced military officers whose plans seemed to unravel into spontaneous, illogical decisions. The episode questions why General Miloradovich, a hero of the Napoleonic Wars, was killed instead of Tsar Nicholas I, and delves into the numerous other 'what ifs' that continue to shroud this complex historical event in mystery. By collaborating with eminent historians, the production team presents a chronologically assembled account, inviting viewers to conduct their own investigation into the truth behind the 1825 uprising and the events of that fateful night in Senate Square.
