THE CAPITALIST SYSTEM

Cinemavixion Review

Florian Opitz's 'The Capitalist System' is a stark and urgent examination of our global economic model, presented with a disquieting visual flair. The film masterfully interweaves images of environmental decay – melting glaciers, polluted skies – with the relentless march of financial markets, suggesting a profound and dangerous disconnect. Opitz, known for his incisive documentaries, probes the fundamental tenets of capitalism, questioning our collective obsession with perpetual growth on a finite planet. Through interviews with economists and thinkers, and filmed across diverse global landscapes, the documentary unearths uncomfortable truths about the system's inherent contradictions and its pathological drive. It’s a thought-provoking, if unsettling, cinematic essay that challenges viewers to reconsider the trajectory of our consumerist society and the enduring relevance of critiques like those offered by Karl Marx.
