SWEET SWEET SUMMERTIME

Cinemavixion Review

Ken Carpenter's 'Sweet Sweet Summertime' offers a heartwarming, albeit familiar, tale of childhood friendships tested by the looming prospect of relocation. The narrative centers on Caleb, a spirited 12-year-old, who, alongside his loyal friend Blake, embarks on a series of whimsical schemes to prevent his family's move. The performances, particularly from young leads Nico Christou and DeVion Harris, capture the earnestness and imaginative spirit of youth. Markie Post and Kevin Sizemore provide solid adult support, grounding the more fantastical elements of the children's plans. While the plot treads familiar ground, its genuine affection for its characters and the bittersweet theme of cherishing fleeting moments makes it a touching watch. The film successfully evokes the specific joys and anxieties of pre-adolescence, making it a relatable experience for families.
