SPLINTERS

Cinemavixion Review

Jon Corum's "Splinters" (2022) is a poignant exploration of grief and burgeoning connection set against the backdrop of rural isolation. The narrative centers on Bo, a young man grappling with the recent loss of his father, whose quest for buried money at a local sawmill becomes a symbolic journey through his own emotional landscape. Simultaneously, his mother, Anna, navigates the complexities of a new friendship with her son's teacher, hinting at the quiet resilience and search for solace that often follows tragedy. Bolstered by a committed cast, particularly Jackson Kelly and Joni Mann, the film delicately portrays the unspoken tensions and tentative hopes within a family unit under strain. While not a bombastic spectacle, "Splinters" offers a thoughtful, character-driven drama that resonates with its understated authenticity and emotional depth, inviting viewers to contemplate the intricate ways individuals cope and connect in the face of loss.
