SHOWDOWN

Cinemavixion Review

In the realm of direct-to-video action, "Showdown" emerges as a surprisingly engaging martial arts flick. Billy Blanks, a bona fide legend in the world of full-contact karate, delivers a grounded performance as an ex-cop turned janitor who mentors a bullied student, portrayed with earnest determination by Kenn Scott. The narrative, while straightforward, effectively pits Blanks's stoic presence against the raw energy of Scott, exploring themes of discipline and self-defense. Director Robert Radler crafts a series of well-choreographed fight sequences that showcase Blanks's signature power and Scott's developing skills. While it may not redefine the genre, "Showdown" offers a satisfying dose of martial arts action, bolstered by the charisma of its lead actors and a solid, if familiar, underdog story.
