ROYAL WEDDING

Cinemavixion Review

Stanley Donen's "Royal Wedding" is a effervescent musical that captures the joy and whimsy of its era. Fred Astaire, in one of his later starring roles, delivers his signature elegance, even when dancing on walls and ceilings in a feat of inventive choreography. Jane Powell is a delightful counterpart as his sister, Ellen, navigating both professional challenges and a burgeoning romance with Peter Lawford's Lord John Brindale. The film masterfully intertwines song, dance, and a lighthearted plot set against the backdrop of the actual royal wedding, creating a charming spectacle. Its vibrant energy, exemplified by a standout vaudeville-style slapstick number, and the sheer artistry of Astaire's performance, make this a truly enjoyable cinematic experience, earning its place as a beloved musical comedy.
