ROLLO THE VIKING: CONQUEROR OF NORMANDY THROUGH BLOOD AND STEEL

Cinemavixion Review

This documentary plunges viewers into the tumultuous 10th century, charting the ambitious journey of Rollo, the formidable Viking leader. Through a compelling narrative, it details his relentless pursuit of independence from King Harald I of Norway, leading him across the seas to raid the shores of Scotland, England, Flanders, and France. The film vividly portrays the pivotal moments of Rollo's campaigns, including his audacious siege of Paris and the eventual, consequential negotiations with Charles III the Simple of France. The Treaty of Saint-Clair-sur-Epte, which led to the establishment of Normandy, is presented as a watershed moment, transforming Rollo from a feared brigand into the foundational figure of a new duchy. The documentary effectively captures the blend of brute force and shrewd diplomacy that defined this era of Viking expansion and European consolidation.
