PREY - SURVIVING THE CATHOLIC CHURCH

Cinemavixion Review

Matt Gallagher's "Prey - Surviving the Catholic Church" is a profoundly moving and essential documentary that bravely confronts the deeply disturbing reality of clergy sexual abuse. The film centers on the harrowing journey of a survivor and his determined civil lawyer as they navigate the arduous legal battle against the Catholic Church. Through the lens of a public trial, Gallagher skillfully illuminates the systemic failures and hidden truths that allowed such abuse to persist for decades, traumatizing countless individuals. The inclusion of the abuser's haunting video deposition adds a layer of chilling authenticity, bringing a long-buried confession into the light. While the trial focuses on financial compensation, its true power lies in its unflinching pursuit of truth and accountability, demanding answers to how and why the institution failed to protect its most vulnerable. "Prey" is a testament to the courage of survivors and a vital call for justice and reform.
