OKLAHOMA ANNIE
Cinemavixion Review
R.G. Springsteen’s 1952 Western comedy, "Oklahoma Annie," offers a charming, if somewhat formulaic, tale centered on Judy Canova in the titular role. Canova, known for her comedic talents, portrays a resourceful storekeeper who finds herself embroiled in a town’s struggle against corruption. Her efforts are further complicated, and perhaps motivated, by the arrival of a handsome new sheriff, played by John Russell. The film blends elements of small-town drama with the expected tropes of the Western genre, as Annie attempts to clean up the town while navigating a budding romance. While perhaps not a landmark of the genre, "Oklahoma Annie" provides a lighthearted diversion, showcasing Canova's enduring appeal and a classic narrative of a determined woman making a difference in a lawless (or at least, corrupt) frontier setting. The supporting cast, including Grant Withers, adds to the familiar charm of this mid-century Hollywood production.
