NIGHT BOATS

Cinemavixion Review

“Night Boats” is a tender and surprisingly sprightly melodrama that offers a poignant counterpoint to the often-bleak narratives surrounding aging. Following Helena and Jakov, two retirees who find unexpected love and decide to elope from their care facility, the film transcends its setting to become a universal story of enduring romance. Director Igor Mirkovic, working from a script by Elvis Bosnjak and himself, crafts a narrative that captures the youthful spirit of rebellion in its elderly protagonists. The Croatian production, which garnered 3 wins and a nomination, boasts a commendable 6.6 IMDb rating, testament to its heartfelt storytelling. While the film's subtitles might present a minor barrier for some, the universal language of love and the courage to pursue it make “Night Boats” a deeply rewarding watch, encouraging audiences to believe that passion knows no age limit.
