MERRY EX-MAS

Cinemavixion Review

Brian Skiba's 'Merry Ex-Mas' offers a festive, albeit somewhat predictable, exploration of familial entanglement set against the backdrop of a Christmas blizzard. The premise, trapping an estranged couple with new partners and a mother-in-law under one roof, promises a potent cocktail of awkwardness and potential reconciliation. Kristy Swanson and Dean Cain anchor the narrative with performances that navigate the delicate balance between lingering resentment and shared history. Lochlyn Munro adds a layer of comedic tension as the wealthy suitor. While the film may not break new ground in the holiday romance genre, its focus on the enduring complexities of relationships, even amidst forced proximity, provides a relatable and heartwarming, if occasionally conventional, viewing experience. The snowbound setting effectively amplifies the confined drama, pushing characters towards confronting their past and present.
