Harry L. Fraser's "Mason of the Mounted" (1932) offers a brisk, if unassuming, entry into the Western genre. Starring Bill Cody as the titular Canadian Mountie, the film follows Mason as he ventures south of the border in pursuit of a horse thief. Armed with little more than a watch chain as a clue, Mason's investigation leads him to forge an unlikely alliance with a young boy named Andy. The plot thickens when a confrontation with the villainous Calhoun results in the crucial piece of evidence – Calhoun's watch – being recovered during a scuffle. Cody, alongside Andy Shuford and Nancy Drexel, delivers a performance befitting the era's adventure serials, making "Mason of the Mounted" a watchable tale of justice served on the frontier. While not a landmark film, its straightforward narrative and classic Western tropes make it a pleasant diversion for fans of the genre.
