LEBANON’S CRISIS: THE LAST HOPE

Cinemavixion Review

This documentary, 'Lebanon’s Crisis: The Last Hope,' offers a stark and unflinching look at a nation grappling with unprecedented economic collapse. Director Alix de Maintenant guides us through the daily realities of Lebanese citizens, transforming abstract financial woes into tangible struggles. We witness the pervasive impact of a currency devaluation that has rendered savings virtually worthless, forcing ordinary people like shopkeeper Riad to constantly adjust to a new, precarious financial landscape. The scarcity of basic utilities, such as the meager two hours of daily electricity, underscores the profound disruption to everyday life. The film poignantly captures the desperation of a population where six in ten now aspire to leave, highlighting the perilous journeys undertaken by those seeking refuge and a better future abroad, as exemplified by Mohammed's attempted escape. It’s a powerful, humanizing portrait of resilience amidst systemic failure.
