LARRY SEMON & STAN LAUREL: FRAUDS AND FRENZIES

Cinemavixion Review

This compilation offers a delightful glimpse into the early days of silent comedy, focusing on the anarchic brilliance of Larry Semon and a remarkably youthful Stan Laurel. "Frauds and Frenzies," a standout piece within this collection, showcases their burgeoning comedic chemistry as prisoners on a chain gang. Semon, a titan of the era, directs and stars alongside Laurel, orchestrating a symphony of physical gags and perfectly timed pratfalls. The film's narrative, while simple, serves as a mere framework for the duo's inventive slapstick. Its true triumph lies in the meticulously crafted comedic sequences and a breathtaking chase finale through the streets of 1918 Los Angeles, a testament to Semon's visionary direction and his knack for spectacular stunts that cemented his status as a comedic powerhouse.
