KRYPTONITE

Cinemavixion Review

Nicanor Loreti's "Kryptonita" offers a bold and unconventional reimagining of superhero lore, transplanting the familiar narrative of Superman's arrival into the gritty urban landscape of Argentina. This 2015 release, based on Leo Oyola's comic book, presents a unique take on the Justice League, portraying them as a band of outlaws in a desperate bid to save a young Kal-El from both the authorities and the formidable Doomsday. The film's strength lies in its "Robin Hood"-esque reinterpretation of iconic characters, including J'onn J'onzz, Hawkgirl, Green Lantern, The Flash, Wonder Woman (as Lady Di), and Batman, all held hostage while a dedicated doctor races against time to extract a piece of kryptonite. "Kryptonita" is a fascinating exploration of how beloved archetypes can be recontextualized within a different cultural and social framework, delivering a thrilling and inventive cinematic experience that has garnered attention with 1 win and 8 nominations.
