KALI KARATE: THE 2ND BEGINNING

Cinemavixion Review

In the unique realm of mockumentary filmmaking, 'Kali Karate: The 2nd Beginning' emerges as a quirky and earnest attempt at a comeback story. Centered around the fictional martial arts star SENSAI Houston, the film plunges into the life of a fighter whose glory days are long past. The narrative cleverly uses the premise of a talk show, financed through dubious means by a B-list producer, as a vehicle for Houston's personal aspirations, most notably to reconcile with his ex-wife. While the external data points to a 2023 release and a runtime of 80 minutes, directed by Sean Russel Herman, the heart of the film lies in its endearing portrayal of a flawed protagonist seeking redemption. The low-key YouTube release, with its modest viewership, belies a potentially charming character study dressed in the garb of martial arts and Hollywood satire. It’s a film that champions the underdog, offering a second act for a character who, much like the film itself, might be aiming for a triumphant return.
