HOLLOWAY: WOMAN BEHIND BARS

Cinemavixion Review

This documentary offers a stark and compelling glimpse into the grim realities of Holloway Prison between 1852 and 1948. The narrative artfully weaves together the stories of its diverse inmates, from the notorious Edwardian baby-killers to the impassioned suffragettes who fought for their beliefs within its walls. The inclusion of high-profile figures like Ruth Ellis and Diana Mitford adds significant weight, transforming the prison into a microcosm of British social and legal history. The film doesn't shy away from the harshness of incarceration, presenting a poignant exploration of justice, punishment, and the societal forces that shaped these women's lives. It serves as a powerful reminder of the evolution of the penal system and the enduring struggles for equality.
