HIT BY LIGHTNING

Cinemavixion Review

Ricky Blitt's 'Hit by Lightning' is a darkly comedic caper that plunges into the often-absurd territory of online dating and desperate measures. The film centers on Ricky Miller, a seemingly unassuming writer whose life takes a sharp, unexpected turn when he connects with the enigmatic Danita. Their burgeoning online romance quickly spirals into a complex web of deceit, suspicion, and dangerous propositions, particularly when Danita reveals her troubled marriage to a crime novelist. Blitt, who also penned the script, crafts a narrative that probes themes of loneliness, aspiration, and the perilous pursuit of happiness. While the film garnered a lukewarm reception from critics, with a Rotten Tomatoes score of 13%, its quirky premise and the central dynamic between its characters offer a unique, albeit flawed, exploration of modern relationships and the extreme lengths one might go to for love. The supporting cast, including Jon Cryer, adds a layer of familiar charm to this unconventional tale.
