HIJACKING HOLLYWOOD
Cinemavixion Review
Neil Mandt's 1997 comedy "Hijacking Hollywood" offers a behind-the-scenes look at the absurdities of the film industry, following the misadventures of an aspiring director, Kevin Conroy (played by Henry Thomas), and his producer roommate, Ted. Working as a production assistant on a lavish, albeit seemingly ill-conceived, mega-budget film titled "Moby Dick 2: Ahab's Revenge," Kevin endures constant humiliation from tyrannical producers. Fed up with the industry's exploitation, Kevin and Ted concoct a daring plan: to steal the most expensive scene ever shot and hold it for ransom. The film, which also features Scott Thompson and Mark Metcalf, is a satirical jab at Hollywood's excesses and the lengths one might go to for a taste of success. Despite a modest box office return and a middling critical reception, "Hijacking Hollywood" provides an entertaining, if somewhat dated, glimpse into the cutthroat world of moviemaking.
