HERNANDO DE SOTO: DARK LEGACY OF THE MEDIEVAL EXPLORER

Cinemavixion Review

While romanticized historical narratives often portray Hernando de Soto's arrival in North America as a pivotal moment, this documentary embarks on a critical examination, guided by archaeological evidence. It contrasts the popular celebratory myths with a starker, more accurate account of the conquistador's expedition. The film delves into the trail of destruction left across the continent, from Florida to the Mississippi, revealing not only the existence of previously unknown Native American cultures but also the devastating impact of de Soto's campaign on these populations. By presenting findings from archaeological excavations, the documentary challenges long-held perceptions, offering a sobering perspective on a significant historical encounter and its tragic consequences for indigenous peoples.
