GYPSIES, TRAMPS AND THIEVES: CONFRONTING RACIAL PREJUDICE

Cinemavixion Review

This documentary, 'Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves: Confronting Racial Prejudice,' offers a poignant and vital exploration of the often-overlooked persecution of the Romany people. Through the deeply personal narratives of Vera, Tibor, Anna, and Antonie, the film illuminates the enduring dignity and rich culture of the Roma community within the Czech Republic. It masterfully intertwines their individual stories with traditional Romani music and poetry, creating a powerful tapestry of resilience against a backdrop of historical and ongoing discrimination. The film bravely confronts the brutal reality of a genocide that has been largely absent from mainstream historical accounts, drawing a stark parallel between past atrocities and present-day challenges, particularly highlighting the plight of Roma seeking refuge in England. This is an essential watch for understanding a significant, yet silenced, chapter of European history and the continuing struggle for human rights.
