FATHER'S LITTLE DIVIDEND

Cinemavixion Review

Vincente Minnelli's "Father's Little Dividend" masterfully captures the anxieties and joys of impending grandparenthood, serving as a charming sequel to "Father of the Bride." Spencer Tracy delivers a performance rich in comedic timing and relatable exasperation as Stanley Banks, a man grappling with the idea of his daughter, played with characteristic grace by Elizabeth Taylor, starting her own family. The film expertly balances the generational shifts, with Tracy's character hilariously resisting the inevitable, while Joan Bennett provides a warm counterpoint as the overjoyed grandmother-to-be. The narrative unfolds with a series of endearing crises and resolutions, culminating in a heartwarming, albeit chaotic, acceptance of new family dynamics. Its enduring appeal, bolstered by a stellar cast and Minnelli's sensitive direction, makes it a delightful exploration of family evolution, earning a remarkable 100% on Rotten Tomatoes.
