FAITH ON THE CANVAS | THE DIVINE IN ART

Cinemavixion Review

This episode, "Faith on the Canvas | The Divine in Art," curated by Justin Paton and directed by Gillian Ashurst, offers a thoughtful exploration of religious art's transition from sacred spaces to gallery walls. Originally produced in 2009, the documentary delves into how these works continue to resonate with profound questions about human existence, purpose, and the concept of a higher power, even when removed from their original spiritual context. Paton guides viewers through a selection of paintings, demonstrating how faith, memory, and belief are visually articulated through the medium of paint. It serves as a gentle, evocative meditation on the enduring spiritual potency of art, encouraging viewers to engage in personal reflection and emotional connection. The film beautifully illustrates the power of pigment and meaning to offer a glimpse of the divine.
