COMMUNIST REVOLUTIONARIES: WHEN USSR CAME KNOCKING ON REAGAN'S BORDERS

Cinemavixion Review

This documentary delves into the tense geopolitical landscape of the Cold War, a period defined by the chilling doctrine of Mutually Assured Destruction. It meticulously details pivotal moments, including the US intervention in Grenada following a Marxist coup, and the covert US support for anti-Marxist rebels in Nicaragua amidst a national rebellion. The narrative also explores President Reagan's ambitious and controversial 'Star Wars' arms program, designed as a laser defense system against nuclear attack, and the profound implications it held for the global balance of power. Furthermore, the series touches upon Mikhail Gorbachev's reformist agenda within the USSR, his efforts towards economic restructuring and greater freedom, and the significant step of withdrawing Soviet troops from Afghanistan, though the conflict there persisted. The examination of these events offers a compelling look at a world teetering on the brink, shaped by superpower rivalry and the constant threat of nuclear annihilation.
