HOW THE FIRST NUCLEAR BOMBS IGNITED THE COLD WAR | M.A.D. WORLD

Cinemavixion Review

This documentary, 'M.A.D. World,' meticulously unpacks the origins of the Cold War, charting the perilous transition from the ashes of World War II to a global standoff defined by the specter of nuclear annihilation. It vividly illustrates the birth of the United Nations as a fragile hope for peace, juxtaposed against the horrifying dawn of the nuclear age with the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The narrative skillfully details the Soviet Union's post-war occupation of Eastern Europe, the imposition of communist regimes, and the West's helpless observation. Through archival footage and perhaps eyewitness accounts, the series captures the stark reality of the Iron Curtain, the desperate escapes, and the oppressive atmosphere of secret police and torture. Furthermore, it highlights the escalating global tensions through the first proxy wars in Greece and the communist revolution in China. The exploration of the US atomic tests at Bikini Atoll underscores the menacing readiness to deploy these devastating weapons, setting the stage for a decades-long conflict built on the terrifying doctrine of Mutually Assured Destruction.
