BOYS OF THE CITY

Cinemavixion Review

Joseph H. Lewis's "Boys of the City" plunges viewers into a surprising blend of juvenile delinquency and supernatural intrigue. Set against the oppressive heat of a New York summer, the narrative takes a sharp turn when a group of streetwise kids, led by Bobby Jordan's Knuckles, find themselves stranded at a remote mountain manor. What begins as a simple detour quickly devolves into a chilling mystery, as ghostly apparitions, sinister threats, and a murder disrupt their forced stay. The film cleverly juxtaposes the youthful energy of its protagonists with the gothic atmosphere of a haunted house, creating a unique B-movie experience. The cast, featuring Leo Gorcey and Hal E. Chester alongside Jordan, delivers performances that capture the era's tough-talking charm. While perhaps not a mainstream classic, "Boys of the City" offers a compellingly atmospheric thriller that showcases Lewis's early directorial prowess in weaving suspense and character dynamics.
