BORDERLAND

Cinemavixion Review

Andrew Jara's "BORDERLAND" plunges viewers into the gritty underbelly of El Paso, Texas, where desperation fuels a dangerous game of survival. The film centers on Sarah, a protagonist entangled in a perilous debt with a ruthless cartel. The narrative skillfully navigates her precarious situation as she embarks on a quest to recover missing funds, aided by an enigmatic stranger. Jara masterfully builds tension, exploring themes of consequence and unlikely alliances. The performances, particularly from Elle Army, Juan Manuel Cazares, and Charlavail Effron, ground the thriller in a palpable sense of urgency. While its runtime is concise, "BORDERLAND" delivers a compelling crime drama that captures the stark realities of its setting, offering a taut and engaging cinematic experience.
