Cinemavixion Review

Rodion Nakhapetov's 2004 film, "BORDER BLUES," presents a gritty, albeit uneven, narrative set against the backdrop of Los Angeles and the Mexican border. The film attempts to weave together multiple threads, including the plight of a dangerous smuggler, portrayed by Eric Roberts, who finds himself entangled with a captivating woman and her young daughter. Simultaneously, Gary Busey's character, a police chief, is on the hunt for a menacing bomber. While the premise promises a tense thriller, the execution, as suggested by its low IMDb rating, appears to falter. The ambition to blend smuggling drama with a bomb plot, directed and starring Nakhapetov himself alongside Roberts and Busey, results in a convoluted story that struggles to maintain narrative cohesion. It's a film that, despite its intriguing elements and a cast featuring recognizable faces, ultimately fails to fully capitalize on its potential, leaving audiences with a sense of missed opportunity.
