BETWEEN THE AMERICAS - THE SILENCE OF GUATEMALA

Cinemavixion Review

Stef Biemans's 'The Silence of Guatemala' delves into a harrowing chapter of history, focusing on the enduring silence surrounding the genocide of the Maya people. For four decades, the mass slaughter of indigenous communities under General Efraín Ríos Montt has remained officially unrecognized, a silence that permeates the narrative. Biemans's documentary, by giving voice to the stories of the Maya, challenges this historical amnesia, posing a critical question: has the time finally come to break this profound silence and confront the past?
