ARCH OF TRIUMPH

Cinemavixion Review

Waris Hussein's "Arch of Triumph" offers a poignant, albeit somber, portrayal of love and survival on the precipice of war. Set in a pre-occupation Paris, the film intricately weaves the story of an Austrian refugee doctor, embodied with quiet intensity by Anthony Hopkins, who finds solace and complication in a relationship with a captivating, enigmatic woman played by Lesley-Anne Down. The narrative navigates the delicate balance between personal desire and the looming threat of Nazism, creating an atmosphere thick with foreboding. Donald Pleasence adds a layer of gravitas to the ensemble. While perhaps not reaching the epic scale of some wartime dramas, "Arch of Triumph" succeeds through its intimate focus on human connection amidst political turmoil, making it a compelling watch for those drawn to character-driven historical pieces.
