A SHIP OF HUMAN SKIN

Cinemavixion Review

Richard Bailey's "A Ship of Human Skin" delves into the shadowy corners of rural mysticism and the violent repercussions of perceived revelations. The film follows two women venturing into the fringes of society, seeking spiritual enlightenment, only to find themselves ensnared in a harrowing ordeal. When one protagonist experiences a vision of a man as an embodiment of evil, she resorts to brutal violence with an axe. The narrative takes a surreal turn as the woman, imprisoned, is said to levitate, adding a layer of the supernatural to the unfolding drama. While the film's reception, as indicated by its IMDb rating of 5.4, suggests a polarizing experience, its unique blend of gothic atmosphere, psychological tension, and supernatural elements offers a compelling, albeit unsettling, cinematic journey. The presence of actors like Hilly Holsonback and Hannah Weir anchors the film's descent into its dark thematic territory.
