POWDERBURN

Cinemavixion Review

Serge Rodnunsky's 'Powderburn' plunges viewers into a murky world of intrigue, where a private investigator finds himself entangled in a web spun by a client's young stepdaughter and a suspected embezzlement scheme. Released in 1995, this neo-noir thriller, starring Jay Irwin, Elizabeth Barry, and Lee West, explores the dangerous intersections of loyalty, deception, and burgeoning desire. Rodnunsky, who also penned the script, crafts a narrative that, while perhaps less flashy than its cinematic predecessors, offers a compelling character study. The film's strength lies in its commitment to its gritty atmosphere and the unsettling moral ambiguities faced by its protagonist. For audiences seeking a taut, character-driven mystery that delves into the darker corners of human motivation, 'Powderburn' provides a satisfyingly complex puzzle.
